A las puertas del inicio del verano astronómico -que entrará el domingo 21 de junio, y que podría coincidir con una ola de calor-, la Agencia Estatal de Meteorología ( Aemet ) ha publicado este miércoles su previsión para la nueva estación, su balance de la primavera y también el informe sobre el estado del clima en 2025 en nuestro país.
El portavoz de Aemet, Rubén del Campo, ha advertido que a partir del fin de semana se espera que los termómetros marquen entre cinco y 10 grados más de lo que es habitual: "Esperamos un episodio de temperaturas extraordinario para la época del año y probablemente sea la primera ola de calor del verano", resumió. Esta ola de calor podría llegar este domingo como consecuencia de la influencia de una masa de aire sahariana , que elevará las temperaturas con el consiguiente aumento del peligro de incendios.
Ese ascenso generalizado será a partir de este sábado, y será muy acusado el domingo en Galicia y el Cantábrico. Los meteorólogos ven probable que se superen los 36-38 grados en los valles interiores, sin descartar que lleguen a los 40 en la zona oriental. El domingo, además, se espera alcanzar los 38 a 40 grados en el valle del Ebro, mientras que en algunas zonas de los valles del Tajo, Guadiana y Guadalquivir podrían llegar los 42 de forma local.
El verano climatológico, sin embargo, comprende junio, julio y agosto, y ese es el trimestre del que se ocupa la predicción de la Aemet. Si se cumplen las previsiones, nos espera un verano más caluroso de lo normal, y con más tormentas de lo habitual. Según los modelos meteorológicos que la agencia emplea para la predicción, hay un 70% de probabilidades de que haga más calor en la mayor parte de la Península y de las Islas Baleares. En zonas del suroeste y en el archipiélago de Canarias la probabilidad es ligeramente inferior, entre un 60 y un 70%.
En lo que respecta a las precipitaciones, apuntan a que hay entre un 40 y un 50% de probabilidad de que sea un trimestre más lluvioso de lo habitual, y esa probabilidad está asociada a una posible mayor frecuencia de tormentas. Para las islas canarias orientales y el sureste peninsular, la probabilidad es un poco mayor, del 50 al 60 %, tal y como explica la Aemet en un comunicado de prensa.
La primavera climatológica -que comprende los meses de marzo, abril y mayo- también ha sido más cálida de lo normal; de hecho, en el ranking se ha colocado como la segunda más tórrida desde que hay registros (a partir de 1961), sólo superada por la primavera de 2023, que fue dos décimas de grado más cálida. Su análisis revela que la temperatura media de la primavera en la España peninsular fue de 14 ºC, 1,6 °C superior a la del período de referencia (1991-2020).
Aunque arrancó con un mes de marzo normal en cuanto a temperaturas, abril fue extremadamente cálido, con temperaturas medias cerca de cuatro grados superiores a lo normal. Mayo comenzó con un ambiente frío para la época, pero un intenso episodio cálido a partir del día 19 hizo que, en conjunto, tuviese carácter muy cálido, según los datos facilitados.
Esto llevó a que 19 estaciones de la red principal batieran el récord de temperatura media para la primavera. Los episodios más cálidos tuvieron lugar entre el 3 y el 11 de abril y entre el 15 de abril y el 2 de mayo, pero fue sobre todo el periodo comprendido entre el 19 de mayo y finales de ese mes el que hizo subir los termómetros seis grados por encima de sus valores normales.
En lo que respecta a la lluvia, marzo se considera un mes normal, abril fue muy seco y mayo tuvo carácter seco.
Otro dato llamativo es que de las 15 primaveras más cálidas registradas, 12 han ocurrido en lo que llevamos de siglo. La última primavera (y cualquier estación del año) más fría de lo normal se registró en el año 2018.

Por otro lado, la Aemet ha publicado hoy también el informe sobre el estado del clima, que analiza en detalle cómo fue 2025. El resumen es que fue extremadamente cálido en España, con una temperatura media de 15,1 °C, lo que supone 1,1 °C más del promedio anual normal respecto al período 1991-2020.
El verano de 2025 fue el más caluroso desde que hay registros, junto a 2022. Globalmente, es decir, teniendo en cuenta los 12 meses, fue el tercer año más cálido desde 1961, empatado con 2024, y por detrás de 2022 y 2023.
Según asegura la Aemet, "la tendencia al calentamiento es clara": los 12 años más cálidos de la serie pertenecen al siglo XXI y la temperatura media anual en España ha aumentado 1,75 °C desde 1961.
