Ein Deal, mit dem alle zufrieden sind: Ralf Rangnick bleibt auch über die WM hinaus ÖFB-Teamchef.
Die wichtigste Personalentscheidung des ÖFB kam auf den letzten Drücker. Erst drei Tage vor dem ersten Spiel der Österreicher bei der Fußball-WM wurde die Vertragsverlängerung von Teamchef Ralf Rangnick bekannt . Der Deutsche wird das Nationalteam bis zur EM 2028 trainieren.
Dass die Verlängerung ein Zeiterl dauerte, hatte mit den Bedingungen zu tun, unter denen Rangnick arbeiten möchte. Er verlangte, dass auch seine engsten Mitarbeiter bis 2028 an Bord bleiben. Zudem wird sein Gehalt auf kolportierte zwei Millionen Euro pro Jahr verdoppelt. Der ÖFB kommuniziert auffällig offensiv, dass vier Sponsoren das Gehalt (mit-)finanzieren.
Hohes Ansehen
Unter Spielern ist der 67-Jährige anerkannt, unter Fans beliebt. Rangnick ist in ganz Österreich vernetzt und hoch angesehen. Kritische Stimmen kommen aus Landesverbänden, weil sich Rangnick auch in strukturelle Themen einmischt. Sie bleiben aber die Ausnahme. Das Bemühen um Rangnick war logisch, denn die Alternativen wären für den ÖFB mühsam geworden. Es würde ewig dauern, bis sich ein möglicher Nachfolger ein ähnlich unumstrittenes Standing im Land erarbeitet hätte.
Einzig der Worst Case könnte zum Problem werden: Wenn das ÖFB-Team nach drei Spielen schon in der Gruppenphase ausscheidet und die Euphorie erlischt. Dann hätte man trotz sportlichen Misserfolgs Rangnick zwei weitere Jahre an der Backe. Dass der Verband dieses Risiko eingeht, ist nachvollziehbar.
