Can cause serious illness

A bacterium called Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found in the water slides at Porin maauima (a public swimming facility). The slides have been closed until further tests are completed. The bacteria typically does not cause illness in healthy individuals but can lead to serious infections in people with weakened immune systems. Bakteerin elinolot

Pseudomonas aeruginosa -bakteeri ei yleensä aiheuta sairauksia terveillä ihmisillä. Bakteeri voi aiheuttaa infektioita ihmisillä, joiden vastustuskyky on alentunut. Tällöin bakteerin seurauksena voi iskeä esimerkiksi vakava yleisinfektio, virtsatieinfektio tai keuhkokuume.

HUS:in mukaan Pseudomonas aeruginosa -bakteeria saattaa esiintyä oireettomana ulosteessa, virtsassa ja kroonisissa haavoissa. Keuhkokroonikoilla bakteeria voi esiintyä myös hengitysteissä.

Bakteeri viihtyy kosteissa olosuhteissa ja tarvitsee kasvaakseen vain niukasti ravinteita.
