Before noon, at the Split Gate between the islands of Brač and Šolta, a catamaran belonging to a private Croatian company collided with a sailing vessel flying the French flag.
Eight Czech nationals are believed to have been on board the vessel that sank after the collision. Three people have died, one is still being sought. Four passengers from the yacht have been taken by emergency teams to a hospital in Split. According to Croatian media, there is no threat to their lives.

The cause and circumstances of the accident are unknown at this time. According to HRT, the submarine that sank was about 14 meters long and sank to a depth of 50 to 60 meters. A Croatian Navy coast guard vessel will descend to it. They are still looking for a passenger who was on the boat at the time of the collision with the catamaran.
According to HRT, this is one of the worst maritime accidents in the Split area in recent decades.
Kuštera explained that the accident will be investigated by the State Prosecutor's Office of the Split County. "They are inspecting the ship and yacht, which was handed over to tourists under a foreign flag. It had a vignette, a skipper and all the necessary documents", Kuštera explained.
A Tragic Accident on the Croatian Sea
The Port Authority of Split was notified of the collision at 11:34 am, and immediately afterwards a coordinated search and rescue operation led by the National Coordination Centre for Search and Rescue at Sea (MRCC) on the river was launched, the Ministry added.
The Croatian political leadership has already expressed its condolences to the Czech leadership and the families of the victims of the disaster.
There were no casualties on the catamaran.
There were 118 passengers and seven crew members on board the catamaran at the time of the accident, but none of them were injured, according to the Croatian Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure.
After the accident, the catamaran was towed to Milna na Brač, where the investigation and collection of evidence of the collision continues:
The catamaran's passengers were taken to Hvar by another vessel, and as HRT reports, the sea was not polluted in the accident.
