One person taken to hospital in critical condition following alleged assault

A critical injury occurred during an alleged assault in central Auckland on Tuesday evening. Emergency services responded to the scene on Wellesley Street East, where one individual was hospitalized in critical condition. A person has been taken into custody, and police have established cordons around the area while investigations continue.

One person is critically injured following an assault in Central Auckland.

Acting Inspector Warwick Stainton said emergency services were called to Wellesley Street East, near Rutland Street, about 6.45pm on Tuesday.

"One person was located with critical injuries and has been transported to hospital.

"One person has been taken into custody."

There is a large police presence after a grievous assault in central Auckland on Tuesday night.

Stainton said cordons were in place while inquiries into the incident take place.

At 7pm, St John confirmed it had an ambulance at the scene.
