Missing New Jersey Rep. Tom Kean expected to return June 30

Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-N.J.) is expected to return to Washington, D.C., on June 30 for House votes, according to his political adviser. His absence since March has been attributed to an undisclosed medical condition, though his staff claims it does not affect his cognitive abilities or his ability to seek reelection. President Trump endorsed Kean for a third term despite his prolonged absence. Democrats are attempting to capitalize on his absence to challenge his re-election. House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed he spoke with Kean in early June but declined to provide further details about his健康

Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-N.J.) said he would return to Washington, D.C., for House votes on June 30, days before the House leaves for its Independence Day recess.

“The congressman will be back for votes on June 30,” his political adviser, Harrison Neely, told the New Jersey Globe .

The news comes after months in which Kean has been absent due to an undisclosed medical condition , a situation that has led to considerable speculation and mystery.

Kean’s staffers told the New Jersey Globe the illness will not impact his cognitive ability , nor hinder him from seeking reelection.

President Trump endorsed Kean for a third term earlier this month, despite the absences.

Democrats are looking to flip Kean’s seat by capitalizing on his months-long absence. He has missed 135 votes, after taking a step back from House responsibilities in March.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said that he spoke to Kean in early June, adding that he knows what Kean’s health issue is.

“It’s not a scandalous thing at all,” Johnson said, declining to disclose further details.

Kean’s office did not respond to The Hill’s request for comment regarding his return.
