US border authorities are turning up signs that smugglers and would-be migrants are taking bigger risks as they step up efforts to evade President Donald Trump’s crackdown.

In foiled border crossings during the last few months, 39 people were evacuated from a tractor trailer in Texas just before it caught on fire. Others were rescued from overloaded boats in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean. In one incident at the busy Otay Mesa crossing on the California-Mexico line, a 31-year-old woman from China was found hidden inside a vehicle dashboard.
