Vorige week dinsdag zijn in Brussel 11 verdachten opgepakt in een onderzoek naar internationale drugshandel. Dat meldt het Brussels parket. De organisatie zou wagens met verborgen ruimtes gebruikt hebben om drugs te transporteren via verschillende Europese landen.

Het onderzoek begon in Frankrijk, maar deinde uit naar België en andere Europese landen. De Franse autoriteiten probeerden onder meer een drugskoerier te onderscheppen die grote hoeveelheden cocaïne vervoerde. Maar onderzoek van de Brusselse federale gerechtelijke politie toonde aan dat verschillende personen uit het Brusselse een belangrijke rol speelden in de organisatie.

De organisatie zou drugs importeren en exporteren "tussen Spanje en Italië, via Frankrijk". Bij verschillende huiszoekingen vorige week dinsdag heeft de gerechtelijke politie uiteindelijk 11 mensen opgepakt. 5 van hen werden ook bestuurlijk opgepakt. Ze bleken illegaal in het land te verblijven.

De bende ging gestructureerd te werk. Zo zetten ze voertuigen in met speciaal ingebouwde verborgen ruimtes om de drugs te transporteren.

Bij de huiszoekingen werden ook heel wat goederen in beslag genomen: 60.000 euro aan cash, drie voertuigen, meerdere luxegoederen, tientallen mobiele telefoons, computers andere documenten die interessant kunnen zijn voor het onderzoek

"Bij een huiszoeking op een van de geviseerde adressen ontdekten de speurders ook verschillende valse identiteitsbewijzen", zegt het parket. Daarvoor is een apart dossier geopend. Sommige verdachten zouden België al hebben verlaten en naar het buitenland zijn gevlucht.

"De interventie van 9 juni vormt het resultaat van meerdere maanden grondig onderzoek, waarbij intensief werd gewerkt aan criminele analyse, gerechtelijke verwerking en internationale coördinatie met de Franse autoriteiten", klinkt het nog.

"De complexiteit van dit dossier lag onder meer in het grensoverschrijdende karakter van de criminele organisatie. De verhoren van de verdachten zijn aan de gang. Het onderzoek wordt voortgezet om de exacte rollen van de betrokken personen en de omvang van hun vermoedelijke criminele activiteiten te bepalen."
