En el antiguo Reino de Sevilla, numerosos historiadores señalan que las cofradías históricas que se crearon durante varios siglos y que han llegado hasta la actualidad son las relacionadas con el culto a Jesús Nazareno, a la Vera Cruz y al Santo Entierro o ... la Soledad de María. Ejemplos hay en las provincias de Huelva, Córdoba, Cádiz o la mencionada Sevilla de corporaciones que se crearon en los siglos XVI y XVII que han llegado hasta nuestros días.
