Lithuania to host European Space Education Resource Office

Lithuania has signed an agreement with the European Space Agency (ESA) to host the European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO) until 2028. The initiative aims to inspire students' interest in STEAM fields through space-themed educational programs, teacher training, and opportunities for students to engage with space sector experts and participate in competitions. Economy and Innovation Minister Edvinas Grikšas emphasized the importance of developing a specialized workforce for the expanding space industry.

Lithuania will host a European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO) under a new agreement with the European Space Agency (ESA), the economy and innovation ministry announced on Sunday.

The office will operate in Lithuania until 2028, funded from Lithuania's contributions to the agency. A selection process for the organisation that will run the programme is to be announced shortly.

ESERO offices operate across many European countries with the aim of using space-related themes to inspire student interest in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, known as STEAM, while providing teachers with modern educational tools.

Under the programme, Lithuanian pupils and students will be able to take part in educational initiatives, meet space sector experts, and enter competitions and projects focused on space technologies. They will also gain access to ESA education programmes, international initiatives and internships.

Economy and Innovation Minister Edvinas Grikšas said the agreement would help develop the specialist workforce needed for a rapidly growing sector.

"Expanding cooperation with the European Space Agency will help us train the specialists needed for the rapidly growing space sector," he said.
