The carriage accident in New York's Central Park occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. local time, when the driver stepped out of the carriage to take pictures of the passengers, and the horse began to trot through the park.
At least two passengers fell from the carriage, and an 18-year-old man was seriously injured, and although he was rushed to the hospital, the medical staff could not help him.
A representative of the Transport Workers' Union, which represents horse-drawn carriage workers, explained that the coachman was not supposed to get out of the carriage under the rules, and that the horse had only been in Central Park for about six weeks, according to union representative Alexander Kemp, who called for a thorough investigation of the incident.
Footage posted on social media shows a horse and his team running wildly through the park as passengers fall from the carriage.

I'm not going to be able to do this.
The second video shows the carriage overturning after colliding with another carriage on one of the more busy parking lanes.
Numerous calls for prohibition of activity
The accident has reignited debate about the future of Central Park's more than 150-year-old horse-drawn carriage business, with supporters calling it a major tourist attraction and part of New York's tradition, while critics have warned of animal welfare and safety risks to visitors.
The incident came just a week after one of the park's horses died, adding to calls for a ban on the activity. The Central Park Conservancy, which manages the park and has long advocated for the end of horse-drawn carriages, said that recent events further confirm that it's time to end the activity.
"A young man who came to enjoy himself in our park and died is not an acceptable price to pay for an outdated activity that operates in the middle of one of the most visited public spaces in the United States", the statement said.
