Kallas je prejšnji mesec obiskala Mehiko, kjer naj bi po poročanju portala Euractiv na pogovorih za zaprtimi vrati s predstavniki vlade izraelsko ravnanje s Palestinci v Gazi in na zasedenem Zahodnem bregu primerjala z nekdanjim apartheidom v Južni Afriki.
Odnosi med Izraelom in EU so se v zadnjih letih znatno zaostrili zaradi vojne v Gazi in nasilja izraelskih naseljencev na Zahodnem bregu.
Nedavno je Kallas dejala, da bo EU na podlagi pozivov več članic preučila možnosti za omejitev trgovanja z izraelskimi naselbinami. Prav tako je opozorila, da so se nekatere članice zavzele za uvedbo sankcij proti ministru za nacionalno varnost Itamarju Ben-Gviru zaradi objave posnetka neprimernega ravnanja Izraela z aktivisti s flotilje s humanitarno pomočjo za Gazo.
