Katër ushtarë izraelitë u vranë në jug të Libanit gjatë natës tw sw premtes, në incidentin më vdekjeprurës për ushtrinë izraelite që nga fillimi i luftës tre muaj më parë.
Sipas Forcave të Mbrojtjes së Izraelit (IDF), katër ushtarët ndodheshin në një tank Merkava pranë Kfar Tebnit, një zonë që ushtria izraelite ka qenë duke e sulmuar. IDF tha se një mjet shpërthyes i Hezbollahut goditi tankun, duke vrarë ushtarët brenda tij, të cilët ishin komandantë të Batalionit të 52-të.
IDF identifikoi një nga ushtarët si nënkolonelin Dor Gedalia Ben Shimon. Ushtria ende nuk ka publikuar identitetet e tre ushtarëve të tjerë.

IDF tha se po heton nëse një dron shpërthyes hyri në tank përmes një kapaku të hapur, ose nëse tanku u godit nga një raketë kundërtanke apo nga një lloj tjetër droni.
Pas incidentit, Izraeli nisi një valë sulmesh të fuqishme në të gjithë jugun e Libanit. Sipas Ministrisë së Shëndetësisë Publike të Libanit, sulmet izraelite kanë vrarë të paktën 18 persona të premten, ndërsa numri pritet të rritet.
Në një deklaratë, Hezbollahu tha se kishte tërhequr një grup ushtarësh në atë zonë dhe kishte hapur zjarr, duke “goditur tre tanke Merkava me raketa të drejtuara, gjë që çoi në shkatërrimin e tyre”.
“Luftëtarët vazhduan rezistencën kundër forcave armike me një breshëri intensive raketash dhe predhash artilerie”, tha Hezbollahu.
