Nederland trekt 500 miljoen euro uit voor een nieuw militair steunpakket voor Oekraïne. Dat heeft minister Yesilgöz van Defensie bekendgemaakt tijdens een bezoek van haar Oekraïense ambtsgenoot Fedorov aan ons land.

Volgens Yesilgöz gaat de helft van het bedrag, 250 miljoen euro, naar de aankoop van drones bij de Nederlandse defensie-industrie. De andere helft gaat naar Amerikaanse wapens, bijvoorbeeld Patriot-rakketten en F-16-gevechtsvliegtuigen.

Droneproductie

Het geld komt uit een potje dat al gereserveerd was voor militaire steun aan Oekraïne. Nederland sloot in 2024 een tienjarige veiligheidsovereenkomst met Kyiv. Inmiddels is er voor ongeveer 12 miljard euro aan militaire steun geleverd.

Drones spelen een belangrijke rol op het slagveld in Oekraïne. Het gaat dan niet meer alleen om onbemande vliegtuigen, maar ook om onbemande voertuigen en vaartuigen. Tot nu toe heeft Nederland al ongeveer een half miljard euro gestopt in de Oekraïense droneproductie.
