US Vice President JD Vance has reportedly cancelled a scheduled trip to Switzerland for talks on the newly signed memorandum of understanding with Iran.

US and Iranian officials had been due to meet alongside mediators from Pakistan and Qatar in Bürgenstock in the Swiss canton of Nidwalden on Friday to begin negotiations on the implementation of the agreement.

But a White House spokesperson told US media on Thursday night that Vance had delayed his trip to Switzerland, citing logistical challenges.

The Swiss foreign ministry confirmed to Agence France-Presse on Friday that the planned talks had been postponed.

"Switzerland remains ready to facilitate these talks. The relevant preparatory work at Burgenstock is continuing," it said.

US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed an initial agreement aimed at bringing the Iran war to a close on Wednesday.

The provisional agreement gives the two sides 60 days to achieve a final deal. Under its terms, the US is required to remove its naval blockade of Iran while Tehran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also "reaffirms that it shall not procure or develop nuclear weapons".

The two nations also agreed to the "immediate" termination of military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon.
