It's uncertain at this point what the truth about the future of Max Verstappen's career is, especially given the contradictory reports out of the world of Formula One.
On one hand, former driver and the only openly gay athlete to have competed in Formula One, Ralf Schumacher, is stirring the pot by claiming that Mercedes made a move for the reigning world champion.
On the other, Verstappen's father Jos has dismissed the claims entirely, accusing Schumacher of spreading "false" information.
The latest chapter in the F1 rumour mill emerged after Schumacher alleged that Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff approached Verstappen with a contract offer. According to Schumacher, the proposal was so financially uncompetitive that it was "out of the question" for Verstappen to even consider.
Schumacher suggested that Wolff's apparent reluctance to go all-in for Verstappen may be linked to Mercedes' faith in teenage sensation Kimi Antonelli, who is viewed by many as the team's future star. Jos Verstappen, however, was quick to shoot down the story, calling his claims "false".
The Dutchman's father publicly criticised Schumacher, insisting that the German's version of events was inaccurate and should not be taken as fact.
The conflicting accounts have only added fuel to speculation surrounding Verstappen's future at a time when Red Bull are no longer the dominant force they once were.
But the rumours can't all be false, especially given the fact that Wolff himself said that he is interested in having Verstappen on his team. Wolff said it for the first time while having breakfast with his wife Susie on Netflix's Drive to Survive series.
After cruising to championships in recent years, Verstappen has found himself in unfamiliar territory this season.
The RB22 has lacked the outright pace of its predecessors, leaving the four-time world champion fighting harder than ever for victories and championship points.
While Verstappen remains one of the grid's standout performers, McLaren and Mercedes have both made significant gains, turning what was once a one-man show into a genuine title battle.
That shift in competitiveness has naturally led to questions about whether Verstappen could seek a new challenge elsewhere if Red Bull's decline continues.
For now, though, there is little more than claims and counterclaims. Whether Schumacher genuinely has inside information or is simply stirring the pot remains unclear.
Until Verstappen publicly commits his future, Formula One's biggest driver market story is not going away anytime soon. So far, the flying Dutchman has kept everyone waiting on baited breath.
