Indonesia, US highlight economic ties in Landau's Jakarta visit

Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau visited Jakarta to emphasize economic cooperation between the two nations.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau visited Jakarta to deepen economic ties between the two countries.

Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno received the US dignitary on Friday (June 12), according to ministry spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela.

“The two deputy foreign ministers discussed priority bilateral issues, including the digital economy, and explored ways to attract US investors to various sectors in Indonesia,” Nabyl said in a written statement received on Saturday.

He noted that Havas and Landau also leveraged the Jakarta encounter to exchange views on measures to strengthen cooperation in renewable energy, technology, and maritime affairs.

Nabyl underscored that Indonesia welcomed the deputy secretary’s visit, describing it as a concrete step toward strengthening friendship under the strategic partnership framework between the two nations.

Meanwhile, the US Department of State described Landau’s visit as an effort to deepen bilateral economic cooperation and step up investment ties in pursuit of mutual prosperity.

In addition to the bilateral meeting, the US envoy toured the National Museum and visited the Museum of Textiles during his Jakarta trip.

Before meeting with Havas, he held talks with Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), on Thursday (June 11).

ASEAN noted on its website that the meeting at its headquarters in Jakarta “discussed ways to further advance” the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) between the two sides.

Landau and Hourn explored initiatives to celebrate 50 years of ASEAN-US Dialogue Relations and mark the fifth anniversary of the CSP in 2027.

“They also exchanged views on regional and global developments, as well as other topics of mutual interest,” ASEAN stated.

The US Deputy Secretary of State is on his first Southeast Asian diplomatic tour from June 6 to 13, which also included visits to Singapore and Vietnam.
