Hong Kong singer Eason Chan snaps up US$23m home as celebrities flock to luxury property

Hong Kong singer Eason Chan purchased a HK$182.53 million (US$23.29 million) property in the Southern district of Hong Kong, according to official records. The property, located in Shouson Hill, has four rooms and a garden with a saleable area of 2,801 sq ft. This purchase follows similar high-profile acquisitions by other celebrities, including Taiwanese singer Richie Jen, who recently bought a HK$68.8 million flat in Repulse Bay.

Hong Kong actor and singer Eason Chan bought a HK$182.53 million (US$23.29 million) property in the city’s Southern district, according to official records, joining a list of the rich and famous who have recently snapped up luxury homes.

Chan, whose full name on the official record was Chan Yick Shun Eason, purchased the home in Shouson Hill in a deal registered on Wednesday, records from the Land Registry showed.

Agent listings showed that the property had four rooms and a garden, with a saleable area of 2,801 sq ft. With the purchase price, the property came to HK$65,166 per square foot.

Hong Kong-born Chan first shot to fame in 1995 after taking part in the New Talent Singing Awards, an annual contest launched in 1982 that has produced famous singers such as Anita Mui Yim-fong , David Lui Fong and Alex To Tak-wai.

Chan won first place with “Moon Gazing”, a Cantonese song originally sung by Jacky Cheung Hok-yau, and subsequently scored a recording contract with Hong Kong label Capital Artists.

Chan’s purchase came on the heels of Taiwanese singer and actor Richie Jen Hsien-chi acquiring a HK$68.8 million flat in Repulse Bay.

Land Registry records showed that the sale and purchase agreement was signed on June 9 for a four-bedroom unit at Belgravia, a low-density luxury development at 57 South Bay Road.
