IRELAND

Senior Kinahan Cartel  member Sean McGovern, who directed the gang in the murder of an innocent grandfather and the attempted murder of a second man, was sentenced to 24 years in prison.

Riad Bouchaker, the man accused of attempting to murder three children in Parnell Square in Dublin, denied all charges as a jury was sworn in.

The Rotunda Hospital backed down in the row with the government over maternity care, saying it would no longer serve private patients.
