ist der zehnte Jahrestag des Brexit-Referendums, und inzwischen diskutieren die
Briten, ob sie dem, was sie Europa nennen, nicht doch wieder beitreten wollen.
Aber wie so oft bei den britischen Debatten über Europa kommt Europa selbst darin
gar nicht vor. Es dreht sich nur darum, was für Großbritannien wirtschaftlich das
Beste wäre und wie der innenpolitische Weg dahin aussähe. Was der Rest Europas
denkt oder wichtig findet, wird kaum bis gar nicht berücksichtigt. Lord Spencer
Livermore, ein Minister im Finanzministerium, hat sich kürzlich als erstes
Regierungsmitglied öffentlich für den Wiedereintritt in die EU ausgesprochen. »Natürlich«,
sagte er im House of Lords, dem britischen Oberhaus, »wird das Vereinigte
Königreich der Europäischen Union wieder beitreten. Das liegt schließlich voll
und ganz in unserem nationalen Wirtschaftsinteresse.« Als müssten wir bei der
EU nur anklopfen und – Simsalabim! – würden wir sofort freundlich
hereingebeten.
