GNR shut down nine illegal elderly care homes and arrested seven people in Lousada

The National Republican Guard (GNR) conducted searches in Lousada and shut down nine illegal elderly care homes, detaining seven people suspected of mistreatment. The facilities were found to lack proper sanitation, hygiene, and an adequate number of caregivers to ensure the well-being and safety of residents. Six women aged between 25 and 65 and one man aged 60 were detained. The homes accommodated 11 elderly individuals (nine women and two men), aged between 78 and 95 years. The case has been reported to the Instruction Criminal Court (TIC) in Penafiel, where the suspects will appear at 2 PM
