Have you ever seen a red GOAT?

I think F1 fans saw one for the first time in Barcelona on Sunday after Sir Lewis Hamilton won for the first time in Ferrari colours.

Just last week Hamilton indicated that he was edging closer to his first victory in red and on Sunday, F1's GOAT did just that. Hamilton won the Spanish Grand Prix to secure his first win in Ferrari colours after two consecutive podium finishes.

The victory was more than just another milestone in an already legendary career. It was the culmination of months of hard work, adaptation and perseverance following a difficult debut season with the Scuderia.

When Hamilton made the blockbuster switch from Mercedes to Ferrari, expectations were sky-high. However, 2025 proved to be a frustrating campaign as he struggled to find comfort in a car that did not suit his driving style. Critics questioned whether the partnership would ever produce the results both parties desired.

Fast forward to Barcelona and those doubts have been firmly put to rest. Hamilton delivered a masterclass around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, combining raw pace with intelligent tyre management and flawless execution to claim a memorable victory.

More importantly, he beat the dominant Mercedes team that had controlled much of the 2026 season, sending a clear message that Ferrari are now genuine contenders.

The win had been coming. After finishing on the podium in Monaco and Canada, Hamilton repeatedly spoke about how close Ferrari were to unlocking the final pieces of the puzzle. In Spain, everything finally came together.

At 41-years old, Hamilton continues to defy expectations. While younger rivals have emerged throughout the grid, the seven-time world champion once again demonstrated why many regard him as the greatest driver the sport has ever seen. When the pressure was at its highest, Hamilton delivered.

What will particularly please Ferrari supporters is the consistency Hamilton has shown throughout the season. Since the opening race, he has largely outperformed teammate Charles Leclerc, often extracting more from the SF-26 during qualifying and race conditions.

While Leclerc remains one of Formula One's fastest drivers over a single lap, Hamilton's experience and racecraft have repeatedly made the difference on Sundays.

The result also represents a significant moment in Ferrari's championship ambitions. For much of the season, Mercedes appeared untouchable, but Hamilton's breakthrough victory provides tangible proof that the gap has been closed.

The celebrations in the Ferrari garage reflected the significance of the achievement. Engineers, mechanics and team management embraced as Hamilton crossed the line, fully aware of what the victory symbolised.

For Hamilton, it was a reminder that he remains a force at the very front of Formula One. For Ferrari, it was validation that their gamble on the sport's most successful driver was worth making. And for Formula One fans, it was another chapter in one of the greatest careers the sport has ever witnessed.
