There are two major schools of thought about how to  perfect the design of a casino  in ways that will make people stay longer and spend more.

First, there is the work of former gambling addict  Bill Friedman , whose highly successful and profoundly depressing 2000 book  Designing Casinos to Dominate the Competition suggested casino decor have no clocks or windows so people lose track of time, and labyrinth-like corridors to disorient gamblers as soon as they arrive.
