El Papa León XIV agradeció este domingo al pueblo español haberle acogido "con gran entusiasmo y devoción" durante su viaje apostólico de una semana , y trasladó un agradecimiento "de modo especial" al Rey Felipe VI .
"Queridos hermanos y hermanas, expreso, ante todo, mi gratitud al Señor por el viaje apostólico que me ha concedido realizar en España. Agradezco al pueblo español que me ha acogido con gran entusiasmo y devoción. Estoy agradecido de modo especial a Su Majestad el Rey", dijo el pontífice tras el rezo del ángelus dominical.
León XIV también quiso dar las gracias "con afecto a los obispos, a todas las comunidades visitadas y a la entera Iglesia que está en España" y añadió: "¡Que Dios bendiga siempre a España!".
Durante su visita de siete días, el pontífice recorrió Madrid, Barcelona, Gran Canaria y Tenerife , en un viaje en el que, según cifras del comité organizador, participó en 21 actos con la asistencia de más de 2,5 millones de personas.
El Papa regresó a Roma en un avión oficial español, un Falcon ofrecido por el Rey Felipe VI, después de que el vuelo de Iberia previsto para su regreso sufriera una avería técnica en Tenerife.
