Politiet har indikasjon på én person som foreløpig er siktet i saken.
Utgangspunktet for siktelsen er kroppsskade, opplyser politifullmektig Bård Tangen Nilsson i Sør-Øst politidistrikt til VG tirsdag ettermiddag.
– Vi tar forbehold om at det kan bli endringer i siktelsen, sier han.
Personen politiet ønsker å komme i kontakt med, er kjent for politiet fra før. Politiet har ikke vært i kontakt med vedkommende tirsdag ettermiddag.
Den skadede mannen har fortsatt status som fornærmet. Han ligger på sykehus, og har gitt uttrykk for at han ønsker å forklare seg om saken, ifølge Nilsson.
Politiet har gjort flere etterforskningsskritt tirsdag. De har blant annet lett etter kameraovervåking og etterspurt vitner. Minst to vitner er avhørt, men politiet ønsker foreløpig ikke å si hva de har forklart.
– Vi er tidlig i etterforskningen, og det er for tidlig å si konkret hva som har skjedd. Vi er avhengige av forklaring fra fornærmede, siktede og eventuelle vitner, sier Nilsson.
Politiet vet foreløpig ikke om fornærmede og den siktede kjenner hverandre.
Hendelsen skjedde utendørs ved Kiwi-butikken i Rjukan sentrum mandag kveld. Politiet ble varslet klokken 22.17. Mannen ble sendt med ambulanse til sykehuset i Skien med skader forenlige med bruk av kniv.
