Ha ido a jugar al golf y luego ha estado dándole al billar. En su maleta está el pijama de su mujer, Claudia , pero que nadie piense cosas raras. "Me lo metió en la maleta para la Eurocopa, para que me acordase de ella, y nos dio suerte, así que dije: 'me lo llevo, no sea que no ganemos el Mundial por eso'", cuenta mientras se hace la foto en uno de los salones del Embassy Suites Chattanooga Downtown, cerrado sólo para la selección española. Marc conoce al fotógrafo, así que bromea. Se ríe. Es un tipo estupendo y, después del fichaje, feliz, mirando ya a Arabia para quitarse el mal sabor de boca del debut.
PREGUNTA. Tengo delante al hombre del momento. ¿Cómo se siente? RESPUESTA. Bien, muy bien, muy contento. Al final esto es una experiencia única y muy agradecido de todo lo que me está pasando. No ha sido fácil, he tenido que trabajar mucho para llegar hasta aquí.
P. Ha sido visto y no visto su fichaje por el Real Madrid. ¿De verdad ha sido todo tan rápido? R. Sí, totalmente. Creo que en un día y medio o dos se hizo todo. Por mí mucho mejor, mucho más rápido, sin dolores de cabeza. Al final ya se ha cerrado y muy feliz. Feliz por mi fichaje y sobre todo también para poder estar centrado en la selección, en el Mundial, que creo que es una cosa única y se lo merece.

P. ¿Cuándo sabe usted que ya está todo hecho? R. Creo que fue el domingo a la tarde, más o menos. Ahí ya me dijeron que estaba todo más o menos hecho, que quedaban temas de papeles, temas de firmas, pero nada, yo creo que en un día, día y medio lo tuvimos. Y nada, después lo anunciaron, que con el cambio de hora también fue un poco más difícil, porque salió horas antes del partido de Cabo Verde, pero la realidad es que ya estaba todo hecho. Yo ahí ya estaba pensando en el partido y sin nada de lo que preocuparme.
P. No tuvo ninguna duda a la hora de elegir el Madrid, aunque tenía muchas más ofertas. R. Bueno, al final había diferentes opciones, pero cuando llegó la del Madrid no me lo pensé, creo que es una oportunidad única. Al final jugar para el Real Madrid es un honor y no muchos jugadores lo pueden decir, así que no tuve ninguna duda. Creo que tanto yo como mi entorno, mi familia, lo teníamos claro, que es una oportunidad que no podíamos rechazar y muy contento de la decisión que hemos tomado.
P. ¿Qué le dijo Mourinho cuando le llamó? R. Sí, estuvimos hablando y me dijo que tenía muchas ganas de trabajar conmigo, que me iba a adaptar muy bien, que el Madrid era un gran club. Luego, nada, que me fuese muy bien en el Mundial y que nos veríamos en Madrid.
P. ¿Es verdad que le dijo la frase de 'o eres tú o no ficho a ningún lateral izquierdo'? R. No, no sé si me dijo eso, me dijo que él me quería a mí y nada, muy contento por esta confianza. Estoy deseando empezar a trabajar junto a él.
P. Al aficionado que no entiende que un jugador que se formó en el Barça pueda fichar por el Madrid, ¿Qué le dice un futbolista profesional? R. Yo le digo que la vida tiene diferentes etapas. En este caso, me ha tocado tomar una decisión importante y no tengo ninguna duda, creo que es un gran paso para mí. Cuando eres niño, sueñas con jugar en grandes equipos y creo que el Real Madrid es uno de ellos, es el equipo con más Champions del mundo y ojalá poder ganar títulos con ellos y tener una etapa muy bonita.
P. ¿Por qué el Madrid? ¿Qué tiene el Madrid? R. Pues mira, yo creo que se ha visto muchas veces en las remontadas históricas. Creo que tiene una mística... no sé cómo decirlo, es impredecible. Muy poca gente viendo los partidos se explica cómo puede ser que el Real Madrid remonte o gane partidos cuando parece que está contra las cuerdas. Poder ser parte de ello, poder vivir esa sensación desde dentro, poder experimentar esas noches mágicas es una cosa que como futbolista creo que a todo el mundo le agrada. Si te dan la oportunidad de vivir eso, quedan pocas dudas.
P. ¿Se identifica con eso? Cuando parece que no puede ser, al final es. R. Sí, soy un jugador muy trabajador, muy luchador, alguien que lo intenta dar todo hasta el último momento, que no deja de intentarlo, y creo que es un poco el gen del Real Madrid, eso que dicen de 'hasta el final'... Ojalá tenga la oportunidad de tener noches mágicas, de poder pelear por títulos.
