A driver has died after a car crashed into a pole at a racetrack in Melbourne’s north-west. Nine News Motorsport Australia issued a statement on Sunday confirming a “critical incident” during Sunday’s event.
“Motorsport Australia’s Critical Incident Plan is in action, and staff are working with the relevant authorities following this incident,” the statement said.
“We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the competitor, and our thanks go to the officials and first responders at the scene.”
MSAC declined to make further comment beyond the statement.
The super sprint series is described as a grassroots, community racing series for people who love motorsport.
“These events are a great opportunity for our family of clubs to enjoy grassroots motorsport in a safe, inclusive, and fun environment – with some light-hearted but spirited competition,” MSCA said on its website.
