Three dead in boat collision in Croatia

Three people died and one person remains missing after a collision between a catamaran carrying over 100 passengers and a sailboat off the coast of Croatia. The incident occurred between the islands of Solta and Brac. The catamaran belonged to a local private company, while the sailboat was flying the French flag and sank following the accident. Beim Zusammenstoß eines Katamarans mit mehr als 100 Menschen an Bord und einem Segelboot vor der Küste Kroatiens sind drei Menschen ums Leben gekommen. Ein weiterer Mensch werde nach dem Unglück in der Adria noch vermisst, teilte das kroatische Verkehrs- und Meeresministerium am Sonntag mit.

Der Zusammenstoß ereignete sich den Angaben zufolge zwischen den Inseln Solta und Brac.

Der Katamaran gehöre einem privaten lokalen Unternehmen, das Segelschiff sei unter französischer Flagge unterwegs gewesen und nach dem Unfall gesunken, hieß es weiter. Bei den drei Todesopfern handelt es sich dem Ministerium zufolge um Passagiere des Segelbootes.

Der kroatischen Zeitung Slobodna Dalmacija zufolge waren die Todesopfer tschechische Staatsbürger.

Auf dem Segelboot hätten sich acht Menschen befunden, an Bord des Katamarans 118 Passagiere und sieben Besatzungsmitglieder. Vier Passagiere des Segelschiffs konnten gerettet werden, ein weiterer wurde noch vermisst. Wie es zu dem Unfall kam, war zunächst unklar.
