Emmenés par leur ligne d'attaque magique Mbappé-Dembélé-Olis, les Bleus vont se frotter à du lourd pour leur premier match de Coupe du monde.
Pour sa dernière campagne à la tête de la sélection tricolore, Didier Deschamps va d'emblée entrer dans le vif du sujet avec cet affrontement corsé contre les Lions de la Teranga, champions d'Afrique sur le terrain mais dépossédés de leur couronne continentale sur tapis vert au profit du Maroc à l'issue d'une finale de la CAN-2025 chaotique.
Pour des Français considérés comme de sérieux prétendants à la victoire, c'est un test d'envergure qui s'annonce au MetLife Stadium à East Rutherford. Une enceinte où ils espèrent prendre leurs marques pour y revenir en finale le 19 juillet et ajouter une nouvelle étoile à leur maillot, histoire de clore en beauté et en apothéose l'incroyable parcours de leur sélectionneur.
Un faux pas dès la première rencontre ferait désordre pour une formation avec de si hautes ambitions et instillerait forcément le doute dans les esprits. D'autant que croiser le Sénégal rappelle cette défaite 1-0 des champions du monde en titre lors du match d'ouverture du Mondial-2002, prélude à un crash historique et à une humiliante élimination au premier tour.

"L'important, c'est d'avoir l'humilité"
Prudent, Didier Deschamps a rappelé fin mai au premier jour de rassemblement des Bleus qu'il ne fallait pas mettre la charrue avant les boeufs. "De nous voir déjà le 19 juillet (jour de la finale à New York ), ça ne me plaît pas trop, même pas du tout", a affirmé l’ancien milieu de terrain de l'équipe de France. "On a qu’a pas faire de match et arriver aux États-Unis le 15 (juillet). Ce qui est sûr, c’est nos trois adversaires, et notre match de poule".
"Je ne refuse pas le fait qu’on fasse partie des favoris. Il y a légitimement sept-huit équipes qui ont cette ambition. L’ambition, c’est quelque chose d’essentiel. L’important, c’est d’avoir l’humilité. Il suffit un jour de faire un peu moins et on le paie cher", a ajouté le sélectionneur.
Sur le papier, les Bleus présentent toutefois de nombreuses garanties pour s'éviter une sortie prématurée. Portés par un secteur offensif envié de tous, ils font preuve d'une impressionnante permanence au plus haut niveau international, matérialisée par leur qualification pour quatre finales sur les sept dernières éditions de la Coupe du monde.
Les Bleus, défaits en finale contre l'Argentine (3-3, 4-2 aux t.a.b.) en 202 2, ont aussi soif de revanche. Onze des 26 joueurs sélectionnés ont connu cet échec. "Cette finale, on ne l’oubliera jamais", a ainsi confié Aurélien Tchouaméni avant le Mondial. "On sait comment ça s’est passé pour nous à la dernière édition, on a encore plus faim".

Pour tenter de décrocher une troisième étoile, leur atout n°1 se nomme bien évidemment Kylian Mbappé . Le capitaine sait mieux que quiconque comment aborder une épreuve qui a fait de lui une star planétaire et doit guider ses coéquipiers vers une troisième victoire.
