Father’s Day is prompting reflection across South Africa , with several well-known personalities sharing personal messages of gratitude, love and appreciation for their fathers and father figures.
Jacaranda FM breakfast host Martin Bester says the occasion is especially meaningful this year as he spends time with his father, who lives in the Great Karoo in the Eastern Cape. He says distance often limits their visits, but values the opportunity to reconnect in person. Bester described his father as active and independent, noting his work running a pub and his regular trips to the coast for fishing. He encouraged others to make time to connect with their fathers in any way they can.
Expresso Morning Show presenter and content creator Chanley Wong paid tribute to her father, thanking him for being her strongest supporter. She said his love has shaped her understanding of what love is and expressed deep appreciation for his continued presence and encouragement in her life.
Radio personality and author Carol Ofori reflected on Father’s Day as both a celebration of her husband and her own father. She praised her husband for being a present and involved parent, noting his active role in every aspect of their children’s lives. Ofori also spoke candidly about her relationship with her father, saying it has been complex since her parents separated when she was 12, but emphasised her love and appreciation for him despite the challenges.
Content creator and wildlife expert Shandor Larenty highlighted his father’s influence on both his personal life and career. He credited his father with teaching him patience, respect, hard work and trust, particularly in his work with wildlife. Larenty said some of his most meaningful memories have been made while working alongside his father, describing him as central to his journey.
