Titled UMEK 5.0 - (NE)ZDRUŽLJIVO, which translates to Unjoinable, the event brought together nearly 70 musicians, singers, and dancers for a 90-minute performance. The show was produced by Muga and FM Agency and aimed to merge genres that typically do not mix, including techno, rock, folk, opera, and classical music. According to reports, the audience consisted of thousands of fans who witnessed a multimedia experience described as unique and non-repeatable. The project required nine months of preparation. Approximately 70 performers invested this time into the production, supported by an organizational and technical team of similar size. This crew constructed massive stage scenery, implemented special effects, utilized 3D projections, and engineered high-end sound systems. They also created a theater of light interwoven with dance and other performances. The goal was to create an experience far beyond standard DJ sets. Organizers emphasized that because the event was a one-off collaboration involving specific artists and complex staging, it will not be repeated anywhere else. Last year, Umek demonstrated his interest in unconventional storytelling over routine music production and global touring logistics. He previously staged a symphonic concert at the Križanke venue. For his half-century milestone, he set a greater challenge: uniting artists who appear incompatible on a single stage. The resulting project offered a multimodal journey through different musical styles. The director of the 90-minute spectacle was Miha Krušič. The evening began with Veztax, referred to as the Methuselah of Slovenian techno. He performed a softer, more melodic selection suitable for the occasion. The show opened with a techno-ballet featuring Ana Klašnja. Following this, violinist Abel Modica appeared with a string quartet. Modica had previously collaborated with Umek at last year’s concert. Next came a techno-aria featuring Raiven. The group Perpetuum Jazzile then delivered a vocal performance that reportedly left the audience breathless, showcasing their vocal capabilities. Before the crowd fully processed the previous act, Janez Dovč discarded his accordion to play a laser harp. The band Joker Out followed, performing their iconic track Gatex in a rock arrangement enhanced with minimalist lyrics. The emotional core of the concert featured Anđa Marić, a co-author of several major Umek hits. Marić, who has lived with multiple sclerosis for years and recently lost her son, performed for the first time in 15 years. Assisted by Modica, she performed the hit song Ni panike. The aesthetic peak of the night arrived with Anja Rupel, representing the legendary band Videosex alongside Detective Hat. Her performance blended sounds, style, fashion, dance, visuals, and the iconic voice of the 1980s. Immediately after, the band Modrijani joined Umek for an energetic mash-up of Hablanda and Rožice. High-octane acts continued with B Mashina, featuring Siddharta and Laibachi. These groups performed a standalone segment in a visual and dance manner reminiscent of the National and University Library. Before the finale, Mina Špiler presented her one-woman show interpretation of Posing As Me, noted for being visually striking as well as auditory. The unique musical intertwining concluded with a performance by Lanicor. In statements following the concert, Umek expressed mixed emotions. He described the experience as incredible and stated that he enjoyed every second on stage. He admitted feeling both euphoric and slightly sad because the event would not be repeated. Umek noted that his greatest difficulty with this approach is being on stage without truly experiencing what the audience sees and hears. He thanked all the musicians who trusted him and joined him on what he called a crazy ride. He confirmed that the feelings were wild and that the afternoon rehearsal had already excited him. The event highlighted Umek’s status as one of the most recognizable figures in the global techno scene. Despite decades of creating music, he prioritized unique stories over routine production. The collaboration involved top names from the Slovenian music scene. The production quality included megamorphic scenography and premium audio. The blend of electronic beats with traditional and classical elements created a distinct atmosphere. Performers ranged from veteran DJs to contemporary vocalists and instrumentalists.
