The concept of the Hanflabyrinth was conceived several years ago by René Kolbe, managing director of the Pahren Agrar Kooperation. He recalled that the idea emerged during discussions with colleagues who had observed maize mazes elsewhere. “We thought, why not create one using hemp?” he explained. Since its inception, the labyrinth has been part of the company’s efforts to educate the public about industrial hemp cultivation and its applications beyond traditional uses. Industrial hemp, a variety of Cannabis sativa, is legal for agricultural purposes in Germany under strict regulations. The plants grown at the Pahren Agrar Kooperation are used in industries such as automotive manufacturing and plastic production. Kolbe noted that the current crop has grown uniformly, making the maze visually appealing and safe for visitors. “We have luck, the plants look good,” he remarked. The Hanflabyrinth is not just a recreational activity; it serves an educational purpose.
