New sections of ancient Egyptian temple reveal inscriptions of Pharaoh Psamtik I

New sections of an ancient Egyptian temple in the village of al-Qasr, located in the Bahariya Oasis, were recently uncovered during excavations led by an Egyptian archaeological mission. The temple, dating back to Egypt’s 26th Dynasty, includes a main hall with 16 sandstone columns and multiple chambers and shrines. Among the findings were stone blocks bearing the name and titles of Pharaoh Psamtik I, along with hieroglyphics referencing deities such as Amun-Ra, Amunet, and Khonsu. Additional artifacts included a stone stele from the 18th Dynasty and fragments from the 19th Dynasty. Evidence of earlier Greek and Roman activity was also found, including ostraca, Coptic and Latin texts, and basins used for producing wine and oils. Officials highlighted the significance of these discoveries for understanding ancient Egyptian civilization and emphasized their contribution to cultural tourism.
