The leader of the National Assembly, Dr. Stevanović, has been accused of acting as a tax doctor for his colleague, Mr. Snežič, following revelations about financial irregularities involving another member of parliament, Boris Mijič. According to reports, Mijič did not disclose this information to the anti-corruption commission, despite being required to do so under legal obligations. Further scrutiny revealed that Mijič's company also owes money to former employees, with approximately 15 workers claiming around 40,000 euros in unpaid wages. These claims were brought forward through the Delavska svetovalnica, an organization run by Goran Lukić, which assists workers in asserting their rights. Despite these findings, Mijič has stated that he is addressing the issues, though the exact measures remain unclear. Mijič has stepped down from his position as director of Progros, with his father taking over the role instead. While he remains the sole owner of the business, the change in leadership has raised questions about the management practices within the company. Some critics argue that such actions reflect a lack of accountability and transparency, particularly given Mijič’s role as a member of parliament. Political opponents have responded strongly to the situation. Luka Mesec, a member of the opposition party Levice, has called for Mijič’s resignation, stating that such behavior is unacceptable regardless of political affiliation. He emphasized that the public expects integrity from its representatives and that Mijič’s conduct undermines trust in the parliamentary system. In response, Stevanović, who holds the second-highest political office in the country, has accused Mesec of failing in his duties as a minister responsible for labor affairs. He claimed that Mesec supported one of the largest systemic corruption cases in Slovenia’s history and now uses the Mijič case as a distraction. Stevanović referred to the issue as “throwing bombs” at his party, suggesting that the controversy is politically motivated. Stevanović further criticized the Delavska svetovalnica, accusing it of obstructing workers' efforts to recover owed wages. He suggested that the organization promotes left-wing political agendas and exploits vulnerable individuals during times of hardship. In a televised statement, he promised to personally cover the costs of compensation for affected workers, citing a sense of moral responsibility. During a session in the National Assembly, Mijič, who had been absent due to illness, read a brief apology to the nation, especially to the affected workers and their families. He pledged to settle all debts by the end of the year, down to the last cent. However, some observers question the sincerity of his commitment, pointing to inconsistencies in his past statements. Additional concerns arose regarding Mijič’s educational credentials. His name was listed on the candidate list for previous elections as a graduate engineer, but the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Ljubljana clarified that he never completed a degree there. This discrepancy has added to the scrutiny surrounding his qualifications and credibility. Opposition parties continue to call for Stevanović’s resignation, arguing that his failure to uphold ethical standards has damaged the reputation of his party.
