Defense attorney Richard Novak contended that there is no evidence proving what motivated the shooting, stating, “There is no evidence about what the defendant actually thought about Charlie Kirk, if he was the one who fired the shot.” He added, “We have no testimony that Mr. Robinson ever spoke about Charlie Kirk, heard anything he said, or commented on him in the past.” Another defense attorney, Staci Visser, challenged the prosecution’s argument regarding the aggravating factor of endangering others. She pointed out that the charge does not apply because “there was a single act, a single shot, a single bullet, a single victim.” She argued that the case lacks multiple shots or threats, which would qualify under the state’s aggravated murder statute.
