Alcalde Toledo acusa abandono del gobierno y carga contra Arrau y Codina: “La agenda de seguridad está para la tele”

Matías Toledo, alcalde de Puente Alto, accused the national government of neglecting his municipality and criticized both Minister of Security Martín Arrau and presidential delegate Germán Codina during a televised interview with La Tercera. Toledo claimed that the security agenda has become more about television appearances than real action. Toledo made these remarks while addressing concerns over delays in coordinating visits from high-level officials. He revealed that prior to his appearance on the program, he had stopped by the Las Mercedes metro station, expecting meetings with Arrau and Codina. However, he was informed only hours before the visit via a WhatsApp message, which he described as insufficient for proper coordination. “This is like sending a message through the pre-kinder WhatsApp group,” Toledo remarked, expressing frustration over the lack of formal communication. He stated that neither an official letter nor a meeting had been arranged, leaving him with little time to prepare. The criticism extended to both Arrau and Codina, whom Toledo accused of failing to engage meaningfully with local authorities. He further argued that the Ministry of Security’s work in Puente Alto is being sidelined in favor of public appearances. Toledo pointed out that all preventive security measures are scheduled around the times of morning television programs, suggesting that the ministry prioritizes media exposure over community safety. He also questioned whether Codina, who previously served as mayor of Puente Alto, truly understands the current challenges faced by the city. Toledo emphasized that despite the low number of police officers stationed in Puente Alto, its most populous municipality, he is being asked to divert resources for special services, such as protecting the residence of President José Antonio Kast in La Moneda. Similarly, he noted that personnel are occasionally taken from Puente Alto to secure concerts featuring artists like Cris MJ. “These actions make us feel abandoned,” Toledo concluded, voicing the frustrations of local leaders who believe their voices are not being heard in the national decision-making process. His comments reflect broader concerns among municipal officials about the disconnect between central government policies and the realities on the ground.
