The Veterinary Inspection of the State Inspectorate discovered serious irregularities during an urgent inspection in Varazdin related to the transportation of pigs from an African swine fever restricted area. The inspection found that three vehicles transported live pigs without proper identification tags, leading to the culling of 341 animals. Despite having required documents, there were significant legal violations, including mismatched identification marks and discrepancies between documentation and the actual number of pigs. Officials stated that due to the inability to determine the origin and health status of the pigs, their slaughter was ordered under veterinary supervision. Further inspections are being conducted at the loading site and other entities involved in the transport to investigate all circumstances surrounding the unmarked animals' movement. Earlier, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries David Vlajcic noted that an authorized veterinarian prevented the unloading of over 300 pigs from Slavonia without proper identification, potentially averting a disaster for Croatian pig farming.
