Telangana CM seeks Union Cabinet nod for starting RRR northern section works

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has approached the Union Cabinet seeking its approval to commence work on the northern section of the Regional Ring Road (RRR). This request came after he met with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. During their meeting, the chief minister emphasized that 95% of the land acquisition process for the northern segment had been completed, urging the central government to provide the necessary clearances promptly. He argued that initiating work on both the northern and southern sections of the RRR simultaneously would expedite the overall project timeline and result in cost savings for the government. Revisiting the commitments outlined in the Reorganisation Act, Revanth Reddy reminded the minister of the promise of a greenfield highway connecting Hyderabad and Amaravati. He urged the central government to approve the project without delay, citing the importance of fulfilling these assurances. Additionally, the chief minister requested early clearance for a proposed 12-lane expressway linking Bharat Future City to Machilipatnam Port through Amaravati. This infrastructure proposal, according to him, would shorten the travel distance between Hyderabad and Vijayawada by approximately 100 kilometers and facilitate faster transportation of goods. During his discussions with Gadkari, Revanth Reddy also highlighted the need for Forest clearances for the proposed Mannanur-Srisailam elevated corridor. This corridor would traverse through the Nallamala reserve forest, encompassing areas around the Srisailam temple and its associated waterfalls. The chief minister expressed the hope that the central government would sanction permissions for this project, emphasizing its potential to enhance connectivity while preserving ecological integrity. In another part of his appeal, Revanth Reddy requested the central government's support for a new six-lane highway connecting Hyderabad to Mancherial. This route is being considered as an alternative to the existing Rajiv Rahadari highway. According to the chief minister, this proposed alternative could open up new avenues for growth in agriculture, business, and other sectors, thereby contributing significantly to regional development. The Regional Ring Road project, which aims to create a comprehensive network of highways around the state, has long been a focal point of discussion among policymakers. Its implementation is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion, improve logistics efficiency, and stimulate economic activity across different parts of Telangana. With the current push from the state leadership, there appears to be renewed momentum towards realizing these developmental goals.
