Streetlights on Container Road to be commissioned by July 15

Streetlights on Container Road are set to be officially commissioned by July 15, according to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). All 1,100 streetlights along the 17-kilometre-long Container Road will be activated by this date, as confirmed to Hibi Eden, the Member of Parliament for the region. The project includes the installation of transformers and other related infrastructure, with total costs amounting to ₹10 crore. Additionally, two high-mast lights were installed using funds allocated from the MP’s budget, costing ₹10 lakh. The NHAI has completed all necessary statutory inspections and is actively overseeing the completion of remaining electrical work on the section. The road serves as a crucial link connecting the International Container Transhipment Terminal at Vallarpadam to Kalamassery. This connection plays a vital role in facilitating the movement of goods and enhancing logistics efficiency in the area. Hibi Eden initiated discussions regarding the streetlight project during a session in the Lok Sabha. He also brought the issue to the attention of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. These efforts led to the approval and implementation of the lighting system, which aims to improve safety and visibility for drivers and pedestrians along the route.
