All hurdles will be resolved to complete irrigation projects: Uttam

Telangana's Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has pledged to resolve all administrative, financial, and legal obstacles to ensure the timely completion of ongoing irrigation projects in the state. Speaking at a review meeting held at the Sathupalli tunnel point on Thursday, Mr. Reddy emphasized that irrigation has been given top priority by the State Government. The meeting followed his inspection of the Sitarama Project alongside Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy. Mr. Reddy highlighted a key milestone under the current administration: Telangana has received final clearance from the Central Water Commission for the utilization of 67 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) of Godavari water for the Sitarama Project. This approval, he noted, would greatly enhance the project's execution. He reiterated that the government aims to complete all three major irrigation projects within its term and ensure sufficient Godavari water is harnessed for agricultural purposes. Land acquisition for these irrigation initiatives has been identified as a critical area requiring immediate attention. The minister instructed District Collectors and Irrigation officials to expedite the process by swiftly handling compensation payments. His directive underscores the urgency placed on securing land to avoid further delays in project timelines. Reflecting on past efforts in the region, Mr. Reddy pointed out that previous administrations had launched the Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar projects. These initiatives, he suggested, could have delivered comparable irrigation benefits at a fraction of the current cost if they had been completed in a timely manner. His remarks indicate a focus on learning from historical precedents to optimize future outcomes. During the day, Mr. Reddy conducted an on-site assessment of the progress made on the Sitarama and Sitamma Sagar projects located in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
