A fire broke out around 2 pm on Tuesday in the residential area of Borovje in Zagreb, near the Bridge of Youth. The flames quickly spread through dilapidated buildings located on the Savski embankment, approximately a hundred meters away from the bridge. Firefighters received multiple reports from residents and arrived on the scene with three vehicles, swiftly bringing the blaze under control. According to Mario Fabijanić, the shift commander of the Zagreb Fire Department, one person was rescued after attempting to return inside to retrieve belongings. During the search operation, a firefighter spotted the individual and pulled them out. Approximately 80 percent of the structure's surface area was affected, and firefighters managed to resolve the situation within a short time. Residents nearby reported seeing thick black smoke rising high into the air, visible even from other parts of Zagreb. One resident told a journalist from 24sata that they saw the fire near the embankment and noted that someone lived there. Firefighters were already on the scene, working to contain the fire and ensure safety. According to information confirmed by the Public Fire Service, the fire originated in a ground-level building measuring approximately 14 by 10 meters. The roof was also partially engulfed in flames. Firefighters successfully localized the fire and rescued one person, who was taken out of the burning house. They remain on site continuing their efforts to fully extinguish the fire. Residents of neighboring buildings mentioned that the property is a family home located near the embankment. They added that traffic on Miševečka Street has been temporarily closed due to the presence of firefighting vehicles. Meanwhile, in other parts of Croatia, several wildfires were reported on Tuesday. Fires broke out in Split-Dalmatia, Zadar, and Istria counties. By late evening, a fire on the Klis Korušce area had been localized, having burned grass, low vegetation, and shrubs over an area of 15 hectares. Around 8 pm, another open-area fire on Šestanovac Kreševo Brdo was extinguished, affecting four hectares of grass, low vegetation, and shrubs. Half an hour later, a fire on the Labinska Draga area was localized, burning nine hectares of grass, low vegetation, and shrubs. Throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday night, firefighters from Hrvace were dealing with fires on the Debelo Brdo and Ravno Vrdovo areas, which had been reported on August 2nd. In Zadar County, a fire in Privlaka was extinguished around 9 pm, affecting six hectares of land. Later in the afternoon, a fire in Bokanjac was localized, burning 14 hectares of grass, low vegetation, and shrubs. A fire in Pakoštane was extinguished, affecting about three hectares of land. At 2 pm, a fire in Nina was extinguished, burning an unspecified amount of vegetation. Earlier in the evening, a fire in Orihi, Barban municipality, was extinguished, affecting 30 hectares of grass and low vegetation. A fire in Mandalenčići (Gračišće Pazin) was localized, burning 15.5 hectares of grass, low vegetation, and shrubs. Within 24 hours, from 7 am on Tuesday to 7 am on Wednesday, 158 fire incidents were recorded, involving 216 fire organizations, 781 firefighters, 263 fire trucks, and 18 aerial firefighting aircraft. The total area burned during this period amounted to 48.6 hectares, according to the Croatian Fire Service. In Zagreb, three separate fires were recorded on Tuesday, none resulting in injuries. The causes of these fires have yet to be determined, according to the Zagreb Police Administration. The largest fire occurred around 1:40 pm on Avenue Marina Držića in Trnje, where several residential buildings in a row belonging to unknown owners caught fire, along with a Mercedes Sprinter registered in Zagreb owned by a 30-year-old man. Later that day, around 9 pm, two parked official cars, a Renault Clio and an Opel Corsa both registered in Zagreb, caught fire in Susedgrad on Josipa Lončara Street near a business premises. In the early morning hours of Wednesday, just after midnight, a fire broke out in waste and old wooden furniture in an unused building on Josipa Zorića Street in Dugom Selu, owned by a 72-year-old man. The police announced that investigations at all locations will be conducted once conditions allow to determine the cause of each fire.
