Ownership

tportal (tportal.hr) is a leading Croatian news and entertainment web portal run by Hrvatski Telekom (HT), the country's largest telecoms operator. HT's majority shareholder is Germany's Deutsche Telekom, which holds roughly 53-54% of the company; the Croatian state and institutional investors hold the remaining shares. The portal is thus a corporate property of a publicly listed, foreign-majority-owned telecoms group rather than of a media family or political actor.

Funding

Financed commercially through online advertising and cross-subsidy from its corporate parent Hrvatski Telekom; it is not a paywalled subscription product and receives no party or direct state media budget.

Affiliation & stance

tportal maintains a broadly mainstream, centrist editorial line with no overt party allegiance. Although its owner Hrvatski Telekom is partly state-held and majority-owned by Deutsche Telekom (itself part German-state-owned), the portal operates as a commercial product without party or government editorial control, so it is best classified INDEPENDENT (commercial) rather than a state broadcaster, while noting the telecom-conglomerate ownership.

Croat arrested in Spain: 1.5 tons of cocaine seized in a major operation

A Croatian citizen was arrested in Spain during a large operation where approximately 1.5 tons of cocaine were seized near the northern Galician coast. The drugs were found hidden on a property close to the sea, and among those detained was a Croatian national identified as part of a criminal clan linked to drug trafficking. Investigators suspect collaboration between local criminal groups and individuals from former Yugoslavia, including Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro. The suspect, described as a 'notaria' acting on behalf of a criminal organization, was responsible for overseeing the operation and ensuring agreements were met. Authorities are still investigating how the cocaine arrived at the coast, with some believing it may have been delivered just before the police raid.

A man died fighting a fire in Bosnia, fire threatens along the border with Croatia

A man died while attempting to extinguish a fire near Tešanj in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting ongoing challenges faced by firefighters across the country. The incident occurred during efforts to combat multiple wildfires, some of which are close to the border with Croatia. According to information from the Police Department of Zenica-Doboj Canton, the 77-year-old man was found dead by firefighters during an intervention at a low vegetation fire. He paid 62,293 euros for it, and then they told him not to park it in the garage.

The article discusses a legal case involving a Mercedes EQA 250+ vehicle purchased by a customer in 2023 for €62,292.93. The car was initially recalled in February 2025 due to potential fire risks from high-voltage battery short circuits, leading to a software update. However, another recall in February 2026 revealed that the issue remained unresolved, requiring a complete battery replacement. The owner requested repairs but ultimately decided to terminate the purchase agreement. The court ruled that the vehicle had a material defect due to increased fire risk, making it unsuitable for normal use. The court ordered Mercedes to refund €51,791.09, minus depreciation based on usage, plus additional compensation and legal costs. The ruling is not yet final.

Boy (4) in the camp bitten by a leopard: Rushed to the ICU in Rijeka

A four-year-old boy from Austria was taken to intensive care at KBC Rijeka hospital after being bitten by a venomous snake during play in Istria. According to unofficial reports from Fiuman, the child was bitten while playing outdoors after overturning a small stone. He was quickly transported to the riverbank hospital where medical staff began treatment immediately. The child remains clinically and laboratory stable, having received symptomatic therapy and antivenom serum according to guidelines. Specialists note that while the size of the snake does not determine the severity of the bite, the amount of venom injected can vary significantly, especially posing greater risk to young children due to their smaller body mass. The child continues under intensive medical supervision.
