Khamenei's body displayed in Tehran
The article reports on the public display of the body of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, at the Imam Hossein Mosque in Tehran. His body was laid out for viewing by religious leaders, politicians, foreign diplomats, and citizens as part of seven days of mourning ceremonies following his assassination during the U.S.-Israeli attack. The event marks the end of his 37-year leadership. The body will remain on display until Monday, with an expected attendance of between 15 to 20 million people in Tehran alone. The funeral procession is planned to pass through holy Shia sites in Iran and Iraq before being buried in Mashhad, his birthplace. Security has been heightened across Tehran, with traffic restrictions and closures of airports and shopping centers. International dignitaries, including former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Pakistani Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif, are expected to attend. The timing coincides with the U.S. national holiday commemorating the 250th anniversary of its independence.

In 15 regions of Russia, restrictions on the sale of fuel were introduced for 24 hours
At least 15 regions in Russia implemented fuel sales restrictions on June 23 due to a fuel shortage caused by attacks on oil refining facilities by Ukrainian drones. The restrictions include limiting fuel purchases to specific volumes per person and banning refueling into cans. These measures were introduced in major regions such as Khanty-Mansiysk, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Tyumen, Novosibirsk, Saratov, Penza, Omsk, Voronezh, Murmansk, and Krasnoyarsk. Authorities cited the need to prevent artificial shortages and excessive demand. In Irkutsk Oblast, some gas stations imposed limits while others stopped operating entirely. Governor Igor Kobzev initially linked the fuel shortage to drone strikes but later removed this statement. In Vladimir Oblast, residents were urged to reduce car travel, and in North Ossetia, authorities ordered the creation of an emergency fuel reserve. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak described the situation as 'not simple but controlled,' attributing regional restrictions to temporary logistical issues. Fuel sales have effectively halted in Crimea after an attack on a logistics hub in the Kerch Strait, with the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service also禁止

Cold shower from northern Europe: Clean penalty! Many missed what Vlasic did before that
The Croatian national football team suffered a dramatic and painful 2-1 defeat to Portugal in the Round of 16 at the World Cup. The match was marked by numerous controversies and controversial decisions, including disallowed goals by Cristiano Ronaldo and Petar Sučić due to freezing conditions, as well as a controversial goal by Gvardiol that was later overturned after VAR review. One of the most contentious moments was a penalty awarded to Portugal following an incident involving Ronaldo. Norwegian referee Espen Eskås initially did not show a yellow card after a challenge by Nikola Vlašić on Gabriel Veiga, but after a call from VAR and reviewing footage, he changed his decision, citing that Vlašić had prevented the Portuguese attacker from reaching the ball. This decision sparked outrage among Croatian fans. However, a Swedish referee analyst from the Referee Channel, Victor, argued that Portugal was justified in receiving the penalty. He explained that many viewers focused only on the handball and missed key details, such as Vlašić hitting the attacker in the face and using his legs to bring him down. Victor concluded that Vlašić committed three fouls in one action and deserved a

An American gets the maximum amount of recovery time at Wimbledon.
The article discusses the scheduling of the first-round doubles match at Wimbledon involving American tennis player Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams against the Argentine-Colombian pair Solana Sierra and Camila Osorio. The match was initially scheduled for Thursday and Friday but has been postponed due to Serena's injury during her singles match. Tournament organizer Andy Murray (likely a misstatement, as Andy Murray is a British player, and the correct name might be someone like Ashley Barker or another official) stated they are giving Serena as much time as possible to recover. They ruled out postponing the match to later dates unless necessary for safety or tournament flow. The match is expected to take place on a larger court to accommodate the large crowd attracted by Serena and Venus, who are major stars. Serena returned to professional tennis after four years, but she lost her first singles match and injured her knee. She did not attend a press conference afterward due to health reasons and expressed her commitment to participating in the doubles event. Serena and Venus have won six doubles titles together, including a title in 2016.

The article discusses an upcoming match between Croatia and Portugal in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup, highlighting it as a significant encounter between two teams with strong historical ties and featuring two legendary players nearing the end of their careers: Luka Modrić and Cristiano Ronaldo. Modrić, now a free agent after his contract ended, may retire from international football after this tournament, while Ronaldo, at 41 years old, continues playing in Saudi Arabia’s Pro League. The article notes Ronaldo’s goal-scoring record across six World Cups and mentions his performance in previous matches, including two goals against Uzbekistan but fewer contributions against Congo and Colombia. Meanwhile, Modrić contributed an assist in Croatia’s win over Ghana, advancing them to the knockout stage. The match is expected to showcase contrasting styles of play, with Portugal relying on attacking flair and Croatia potentially using a more centralized attack supported by midfield strength.

The Croatian giant once roamed Europe, and now he's returning after 22 years.
The Croatian basketball club KK Split has returned to European competition after 22 years, having secured a spot in the FIBA Europe Cup for the 2026/27 season. Last season, the team was eliminated from the ABA League but won the domestic cup and finished third in the Premier League. This performance prompted significant changes within the club, leading them to focus on European competitions. The Europe Cup is the fourth-tier European competition, below the EuroLeague, EuroCup, and FIBA Champions League. Previously, teams like Cibona and Cedevita Junior participated in this tournament. Split last played European competitions in the 2003/04 season, where they finished fourth in their group and were eliminated. Now, the club aims to reestablish itself on the continental stage, though details about the budget, coach, and team composition remain unclear.

When firefighters pulled a pregnant woman and her children from a car in a creek, they were especially touched by the little girl's words (3)
In a traffic accident in Donja Velešnja on Sunday, a pregnant woman and child were injured after a family's car overturned into a stream. Firefighters from Hrvatska Kostajnica responded to the emergency at 6:44 PM, with seven personnel from two vehicles arriving on-site to rescue those trapped in the vehicle. The incident involved a family with two children, resulting in injuries to the mother, who was pregnant, and one child. Passersby and other citizens assisted until emergency services arrived. According to firefighters, the vehicle ended up on top of the stream, with civilians in panic. They described the process of rescuing the pregnant woman using a long board. Additionally, they noted the reaction of an unharmed three-year-old boy who had witnessed the traumatic event. The firefighters emphasized the importance of remaining calm and composed during such situations to avoid adding to the victims' fear.

In the tropical Pacific, El Niño conditions have set in, researchers say.
The article reports that researchers from New Zealand’s Earth Sciences organization (ESNZ) have identified conditions consistent with the El Niño climate phenomenon in the tropical Pacific. They warn that impacts on New Zealand’s weather are likely to intensify over the coming months. The ESNZ joined other organizations in Australia, Japan, and the U.S. in confirming the development of El Niño, which is expected to reach strong intensity between July and September. The effects are projected to peak during the Southern Hemisphere summer, spanning late 2023 into early 2024. According to lead researcher Chris Brandolini, this El Niño event is at least comparable in strength to five of the strongest recorded El Niños in modern history. The article outlines regional rainfall expectations, noting potential below-average precipitation in some areas and above-normal levels in others. It also mentions possible temperature fluctuations and increased wind variability later in the year. Additionally, it notes two lower-probability risks: sudden stratospheric warming and the occurrence of a tropical cyclone outside the typical season, both historically linked to El Niño. Brandolini connects the

The Athletic: Ronaldo oscillates between legend and burden
Cristiano Ronaldo's performance against Colombia in the World Cup has sparked debate over his role in the Portuguese team. Despite being one of the main attractions of the match, Ronaldo faced significant criticism, including boos from the crowd after appearing on the big screen. Colombia managed 24 shots, the most in a single World Cup match in their history, and nearly won had it not been for Diogo Costa's heroics and a disallowed goal by Davinson Sanchez. The Athletic highlights that Portugal's loss to Colombia has reignited questions about Ronaldo's impact. As captain, he played every minute in the group stage, but his contribution against Colombia was limited, with missed opportunities and a lost ball after halftime. Coach Fernando Santos defended his decision to play Ronaldo the full 90 minutes, stating players shouldn't be compared to others like Lionel Messi or Erling Haaland who rested in later group matches. The article raises concerns about whether there is a serious alternative to Ronaldo in Portugal's squad, pointing to Gonçalo Ramos, the only true forward available, who has struggled to secure playing time despite his talent and achievements. Portugal finished second

Dr. House was watching the game, and he bowed to the Croatian captain, saying, "Great show, Luka Modric is a giant".
British actor Hugh Laurie, known for his role as the cynical Dr. House, surprised his followers with a post on social media platform X, praising Croatian football captain Luka Modrić after Croatia's dramatic World Cup match against Portugal. Laurie called the game a 'spectacular' and referred to Modrić as a 'giant,' using the term 'humdinger' to describe something impressive. Although Laurie did not specify which match he was referring to, comments under his post quickly revealed it was the intense encounter between Croatia and Portugal, which marked the end of Croatia's tournament journey. The post resonated globally among football fans, highlighting how sports emotions transcend borders. Fans from Croatia and around the world joined in praising Modrić, sharing photos and video clips from the match, and some humorously asked for 'help from Dr. House' after the heartbreaking loss.

Legendary Uruguayan striker on Ronaldo ahead of Croatia: This conditions and harms Portugal
As Portugal prepares for their World Cup round of 16 match against Croatia, debates within the Portuguese camp have resurfaced regarding Cristiano Ronaldo's role and impact under coach Roberto Martinez. During the group stage, Ronaldo played every minute but his performances varied significantly—underperforming in the draw against DR Congo, excelling with two goals against Uzbekistan, and struggling again in the draw with Colombia. This inconsistency has led to questions about whether his guaranteed starting position benefits or hinders the team. Diego Forlán, a former Uruguayan star and ex-teammate of Ronaldo at Manchester United, argues that Ronaldo’s current playing style creates difficulties for the team. He claims Ronaldo is positioned too centrally as a traditional striker, passively waiting for chances rather than moving deeper into the field to contribute to attack. Forlán explains that this static positioning makes it easier for opposing defenders to mark him, limiting Portugal’s attacking options. He suggests that if Ronaldo were to move more to the flanks, it would create space for other attackers to engage more actively. While acknowledging Ronaldo's individual threat,
