These underwater plants play a crucial role in stabilizing seabeds, reducing wave energy, and enhancing biodiversity. Seagrasses also contribute to carbon storage, making them valuable tools in mitigating climate change impacts. Knjaz highlights that restoring seagrass beds does not address a single problem but offers a multifaceted benefit. “Restoring seagrass meadows can return lost habitat for native species, increase biodiversity, stabilize the seabed, and aid in climate mitigation. Such measures benefit both nature and humans while naturally integrating into the ecosystem,” she says. The project aims to generate actionable insights that can guide sustainable management practices. By identifying synergistic effects of environmental stressors, scientists hope to provide evidence-based recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders.
