Bihar labourer hit by vehicle of J&K deputy CM's cavalcade in Gangyal, dies

A labourer from Bihar was killed after being struck by a speeding Scorpio belonging to the convoy of Jammu and Kashmir’s deputy chief minister, Surinder Choudhary, in Gangyal district late Saturday night. The incident occurred as the vehicles were returning from the deputy CM’s residence in Kunjwani. The victim, identified as Bharat Kapas, was a resident of Bihar and lived in Model Town in Gangyal. He was crossing the road when he was hit by the vehicle, according to officials cited by news agencies. The vehicle involved in the collision was part of the security detail accompanying Choudhary, though the deputy CM was not present in the car at the time of the incident. The driver and security personnel transported the injured man to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed with local authorities, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing. As of now, there has been no public statement from Choudhary regarding the incident. Bharat Kapas was the son of Faquir Kapas, also from Bihar. He had been working as a labourer in Gangyal and had moved there some time prior to the incident. In a separate development, a tragic incident involving a flash flood occurred in Udhampur district earlier this week. On Thursday evening, a couple, Baldev, 58, and Maya Devi, 53, were swept away by a sudden deluge while grazing their cattle near a nallah. Rescue teams recovered one body, though it was uncertain whether it belonged to the husband or wife. Search efforts continue for the second person. Local authorities and meteorological departments have issued warnings about the risks posed by heavy rains, urging residents to avoid low-lying areas and landslides zones. Union Minister Jitendra Singh reportedly contacted Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa following reports of the flood incident. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reiterated its advisory to remain cautious in vulnerable regions prone to flooding and landslides. The death of Bharat Kapas comes amid heightened scrutiny over incidents involving public officials and their entourages.
