4 of family killed after being hit by speeding SUV on Jaipur highway

Four members of a family were killed and one injured after a speeding SUV struck them on a highway near Jaipur on Friday, according to local police. The incident occurred on State Highway-2 in the Fagi-Chaksu Road area within the Jaipur district. The victims were returning home from their fields in the village of Fagi when the collision happened around midday. The deceased have been identified as Satyanarayan (65), his wife Manmouj (60), their daughters-in-law Amrita Devi (35) and Shimla Devi (23). The fifth member of the family, Badrinarayan Kumhar (38), Satyanarayan's son and Amrita's husband, suffered serious injuries in the crash. He described how the force of the impact threw him aside, while the rest of his family were crushed beneath the vehicle. Badrinarayan recounted the moment of the accident, saying he was thrown from the scene by the impact of the SUV. His father, mother, wife, and sister-in-law were caught under the vehicle. Local residents quickly called for help, prompting police and emergency services to arrive at the scene shortly afterward. The bodies of the four victims were transported to Fagi Sub-District Hospital via a 108 ambulance. Amrita left behind two children, a 15-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son. She previously lost her five-year-old son in a separate road accident several years earlier. Shimla, who had completed training in nursing, is survived by her eight-month-old daughter, Vanshika. Her husband, Suresh, works for a jewelry firm based in Jaipur. According to Madhorajpura Station House Officer (SHO) Randhir Singh, the driver of the SUV abandoned the vehicle at the accident site and fled the scene. Authorities are currently gathering information to identify the suspect. In response to the tragedy, local residents reportedly blocked the road, demanding ₹1 crore in compensation for the families of the deceased and seeking contractual government jobs for each of the affected families. After discussions between police and officials, the roadblock was eventually lifted. Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating that he had ordered officials to provide all necessary support to the affected families. His comments came through a social media post detailing the tragic occurrence on SH-2 Chaksu Road in the Dudu Assembly constituency. Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal also extended his condolences to the grieving family and called for a thorough investigation into the accident. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and are actively working to locate the driver responsible. The case has drawn attention from both local leaders and the community, highlighting the ongoing concerns regarding road safety in the region.
