Ownership

NDTV (New Delhi Television Ltd) was built by founders Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, who launched its news production from the late 1980s and ran it as a listed broadcaster. In 2022 the Adani Group, through its subsidiary AMG Media Networks/RRPR Holding and a converted 2009 loan held via VCPL, acquired a controlling stake; the Roys then sold most of their remaining holding, giving Adani roughly 65% control. Billionaire Gautam Adani's conglomerate is now the controlling owner.

Funding

NDTV is financed by television advertising, distribution/carriage revenue and digital advertising, and is backed by the resources of the Adani Group conglomerate.

Affiliation & stance

NDTV was long regarded as one of India's more independent broadcasters, but its 2022 takeover by the Adani Group, a conglomerate with close ties to the Modi government, means it is now controlled by a government-aligned oligarch. For that reason it is classified as DEPENDENT, and observers documented an editorial shift after the acquisition. This oligarch control is the basis for the DEPENDENT label, matching the site's guess (though its prior centre-left reputation predates Adani).

Traffic snarls on NEET day: Congress and BJP indulge in war of words

On June 22, 2026, a political dispute erupted between India's ruling Congress party and the opposition BJP regarding traffic congestion in Bengaluru that allegedly caused some students to miss the NEET re-examination at RC College. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya claimed that several students were unable to reach the exam venue due to heavy traffic around Palace Grounds, where a Congress event was being held. Congress denied these claims, with Home Minister Priyank Kharge stating that only a small number of students were absent, citing specific cases such as a student who missed the exam due to a delayed bus and another who had an incorrect admission ticket. He also accused Surya of spreading misinformation, noting that the BJP had previously remained silent during a major NEET question paper leak that affected 22 lakh students. B.K. Hariprasad, leader of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, acknowledged traffic congestion but stated that efforts were made to minimize disruption, including arranging parking within the venue. He also pointed out that similar absences occurred in other districts and questioned why the BJP was focusing on the Congress event rather than addressing the larger

Ketan murder case: Siya and Chetan used code words in chats, say Pune cops

Pune police investigating the murder of 25-year-old businessman Ketan Agarwal have discovered that his accused killers, Siya Goyal and her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary, allegedly used 'code words' in their communications. Police seized a second mobile phone from Siya, believing it may contain crucial information about the coded messages. Initially, Siya claimed the death was accidental, but she and Chetan later admitted to the murder, which involved pushing Ketan off a cliff at Lohagad Fort. Investigating Officer Manoj Pawar noted that the code words' meanings remain unclear. The prosecution requested more time to interrogate the suspects using data from the phones, but the court denied the request and ordered both suspects into judicial custody until July 16. Police plan to analyze the new evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

In top gear: Electric passenger vehicle sales may cross 3 lakhs in 2026

India's electric passenger vehicle (EPV) market is projected to surpass 300,000 unit sales in 2026, up from nearly 200,000 units sold in 2025. As of early 2026, registration numbers are approaching 150,000 units, indicating strong growth. This increase is attributed to new model introductions, aggressive marketing by manufacturers, and advancements in charging infrastructure. Monthly EPV registrations have averaged approximately 27,000 units over the past four months, significantly higher than previous years. Analysts predict that the second half of the year, influenced by festive demand and new product launches, will drive annual sales beyond the 300,000-unit threshold. Frost & Sullivan forecasts this outcome under an optimistic scenario, while Crisil highlights factors like increased model availability, improved battery technology, and reduced cost barriers as drivers of growth.

Mavigun is a better, cost-effective option than Amaravati, says Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy criticized the Amaravati capital project, calling it corrupt and costly, and promoted Mavigun as a more affordable and practical alternative. He argued that Amaravati's construction faces challenges due to poor soil conditions and unsuitable agricultural land, citing the Sivaramakrishnan Committee's findings. Reddy claimed that building Amaravati would impose a heavy financial burden on future generations, while Mavigun offers better infrastructure and connectivity at a fraction of the cost. He accused Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan of aligning with former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's plans and criticized Naidu for failing to justify Amaravati's high borrowing costs. Reddy also noted that Amaravati farmers seek justice after Naidu reneged on promises, and the YSRCP remains committed to advocating for their interests despite recent attacks.

Sailor's body returned from Venezuela with 'missing' organs; Indian embassy seeks probe

The Indian Embassy in Venezuela has requested a thorough investigation after the body of Indian sailor Rakesh Chauhan was returned to India with missing internal organs. Chauhan's wife, Ranjana, alleges that her husband died under suspicious circumstances while working on a vessel in Venezuela and that his organs were removed before his remains were repatriated. She claims the employer's company provided no clear explanation about his death and failed to return his personal belongings. The family conducted a second post-mortem in India, which revealed that none of the internal organs were present. The Forward Seamen's Union of India (FSUI) took up the case, highlighting the absence of an autopsy report and the lack of information from Venezuelan authorities. The union called on the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy to intervene.

Extreme heat conference cancelled due to extreme heat

On July 3, 2026, the London School of Economics (LSE) canceled an event scheduled for June 24 to discuss the impacts of extreme heat due to dangerously high temperatures in London. The decision came amid a severe heatwave across Europe, exacerbated by climate change, which led to record-breaking temperatures, infrastructure damage, and numerous fatalities. The event was part of London Climate Week and was intended to feature prominent figures like Professor Lord Nicholas Stern. The LSE cited safety concerns, noting that its chosen venue lacked adequate cooling systems. During this period, emergency services in London faced unprecedented demand, with the London Ambulance Service responding to thousands of calls, many related to life-threatening conditions. Across Europe, the heatwave resulted in multiple deaths, including drownings in waterways and tragic incidents involving children trapped in vehicles. French officials highlighted the severity of the situation, emphasizing the need for greater preparedness against increasingly frequent and intense heatwaves.
