The update includes five new functions aimed at improving user experience, with one of them specifically designed to combat motion sickness during car travel. The feature called “Motion Assist” is intended to help users who suffer from motion sickness while riding as passengers in vehicles. It works by displaying subtle animations of bubbles on the screen that move in sync with the vehicle’s motion. According to Google, this helps reduce the discrepancy between visual input and physical movement, which can trigger nausea. Users can activate the function automatically during driving or manually through quick settings. They can also customize the appearance of the bubbles, including their shape, color, and opacity. However, the feature requires a smartphone running Android 17. Another notable addition is a new capability for Gemini, allowing users to ask the AI assistant to remember where they have placed items. This feature integrates with Google’s “Find My Device” service, enabling users to locate lost belongings such as passports or spare keys without needing a tracking device. By issuing a verbal command, users can instruct Gemini to record the location of an object. For example, saying, “Hey Google, remember in Find Hub that I put my passport in the drawer of my bedroom closet,” will store the information. Later, users can query Gemini for the item's location, which will display the saved position. This feature is available on devices running Android 16 or newer, though the exact release date has not been specified. Google has also expanded the capabilities of Gemini Live with the introduction of “Guided Vision.” This feature provides spoken descriptions of objects in front of the camera, helping users navigate tasks such as reading small print on food labels or finding household items. If the phone’s camera is misaligned, the system offers verbal guidance to adjust the view, pan the camera, or center an object within the frame. Guided Vision is accessible via the accessibility shortcut or through the TalkBack menu and will soon be available on smartphones running Android 9 or newer in regions where Gemini is offered. In addition to these updates, Google Messages has received enhancements. Users can now share and update shopping lists or vacation notes directly within chats, ensuring all participants remain informed. These notes can be viewed, edited, and additional ideas added by anyone in the group conversation.
