Adam Borowski is the PiS candidate for Ombudsman

PiS has announced that Adam Borowski, an opposition figure during the communist era and leader of Warsaw's 'Gazeta Polska' club, will be their candidate for the position of Commissioner for Citizens' Rights (Rzecznik Praw Obywatelskich). This announcement was made by PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński during an interview with TV Republika at the 21st Congress of 'Gazeta Polska' clubs. Kaczyński emphasized that Borowski would make Polish citizens 'much safer than today.' Borowski, born in 1955, was repressed by the security apparatus of the People's Republic of Poland for his democratic activities and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland in 2006 by President Lech Kaczyński. The current commissioner, Professor Marcin Wiąck, whose five-year term ends on July 23, must be replaced by June 23. According to law, the Sejm appoints the commissioner with Senate approval upon the request of the Speaker of the Sejm or a group of 35 MPs. The same person cannot serve more than two terms. Meanwhile, the Civic Coalition Club has begun collecting signatures in support of lawyer Sylwia Gregorczyk-Abram's candidacy.
