Northern elders hail Tinubu’s security gains, urge unity

Northern elders have publicly commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration for significant strides in improving security conditions across the northern regions of Nigeria. The Northern Elders Progressive Movement (NEPM), a coalition representing influential figures from the north, released a statement lauding the federal government's efforts in curbing insecurity and fostering national development. The group emphasized the importance of unity among citizens to maintain peace and stability, highlighting the need for collective support for the nation's security forces.

The statement, issued by the NEPM's Secretary-General, Yusuf Abubakar, detailed the administration's successful military campaigns against armed bandits in several northern states. These include Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara. According to the movement, these operations have significantly disrupted the activities of criminal networks, leading to the destruction of multiple bandit camps and the elimination of key figures within these groups. The NEPM specifically recognized "Operation Fansan Yamma" as a highly effective campaign, underscoring its impact on reducing insecurity in the North-West.

Abubakar expressed appreciation for the dedication of the Nigerian Armed Forces, noting their persistent efforts in targeting bandits even in remote areas such as dense forests. He acknowledged that although isolated incidents of violence still occur, the overall trend indicates a positive shift toward improved safety and community confidence. The movement also highlighted the role of the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, in providing crucial strategic direction that enhanced the effectiveness of military operations.
